A Guided Walk to help embed the spring butterfly and day-flying moth ID skills presented in the 2nd May Zoom meeting.
About this Event

Join us for a guided walk and field session to practise your identification skills for spring butterflies and day-flying moths. This will take place at Wytham Woods: the site is owned and managed by Oxford University. It is an extensive area of woodlands with an awesome history of ecological research (over 1,000 scientific papers!) They support a mix of ancient woodland, plantations and limestone grassland, with smaller areas of other habitats.

You will get the most out of this event if you have attended Nick Bowles’ online Zoom training add hyperlink on the key points of Identification (2nd May). The focus will be on building your confidence in the accurate separation of common species from scarce species, not a long species list.

You are welcome to bring a picnic and chat about all things butterfly, moth and conservation, over lunchtime.

Accessibility: mostly firm paths and easy walking. Wheelchair users can request gate combination numbers to ease access into the Woods. Powered wheelchairs can access the main woodland track. Please email to arrange this.

Booking Required: This is a ‘permit only’ site, but access has been arranged for those attending the Guided Walk.

Please check here the evening before the walk to make sure it is going ahead as planned. This page will be updated regularly.

If you book but can no longer attend, please CANCEL so others can make use of the opportunity.

Meet at the main car park, take the turning after the White Hart pub, then the private drive, shortly after, on the right.
