A decade ago, close friends The Blessed Madonna and Mike Servito joined forces and created something unforgettable. Those who were there still talk about that night: a dance floor moving as one, a charged sense of community, strangers becoming friends—sharing water, fanning each other, celebrating together.
The nearly five-hour recording went on to become legendary. Resident Advisor and VICE both named it Mix of the Year, cementing the collaboration as a modern classic. Since then, the project has been reimagined at festivals and clubs around the world, each time generating new memories and showcasing the rare, intuitive chemistry of two Midwest DJs who came up separately—yet within the same scene.
At The Loft, Stacey “Hotwax” Hale—the Godmother of Detroit House Music—joins Bay Area selectors Mouthfeel and Abdoulie to complete an evening rooted in history, groove, and collective release.
Unabridged: Made in Detroit is a year-long cultural campaign spotlighting the Detroit DJs, producers, and promoters who created—and continue to define—global dance music culture. Relaunching in 2026, the series connects Detroit to a worldwide audience through club nights, live performances, panels, film screenings, podcasts, and archival conversations across Oakland and San Francisco.
Unabridged is an imprint of As You Like It, a pillar of Bay Area underground culture for over 15 years. Made in Detroit centers the origins of techno through the voices of its creators, foregrounding Black, brown, and queer innovators whose contributions have shaped global culture while remaining under-recognized in the U.S.
“Detroit techno is America’s story,” says Jeremy Bispo, founder of As You Like It and Unabridged. “Black and brown Americans—both straight and queer—invented a new genre of music. It’s traveled the world, yet its origins are still overlooked at home.”
Across a 12-month arc, Unabridged presents programming in carefully selected venues—from seated theater events and intimate listening sessions to expansive dance floors and site-specific gatherings. All panels will be archived, alongside an ongoing podcast and interview series documenting Detroit’s living, evolving cultural ecosystem.
