Curious why your bubbe spat three times to ward off the evil eye, or why medieval Christians were convinced their Jewish neighbors could fly? Step through the doors of Leikam Brewing, where ancient Hebrew spells will meet hoppy potions, for "An Introduction to Jewish Magic: Jewish Learning, Hogwarts Style."
In this three-session learning-journey, we'll explore the largely unknown intersection of Judaism and magic—from protective amulets to herbalist wisdom, from tales of rabbis extinguishing fires with magical challah to DIY Jewish magical manuals printed in the early 18th Century.
Each 90-minute gathering combines scholarly insights with hands-on exploration of magical artifacts and texts in an intimate learning environment. Think less Sorting Hat, more sacred scrolls; no wands or pre-knowledge required, but an open mind is essential.
Come for all three sessions or drop-in when your schedule allows.
