Agenda:

6:00PM-6:30PM ET - Meet and greet

6:30PM -7:30PM ET - Interactive presentation from Dr. Moore

7:30PM - 8:00PM ET - Q&A and discussion with Dr. Moore

Learning outcomes

1. Participants will experience various types of rule-governed behavior, DRR, and ARR and discuss observed outcomes.

2. Participants will briefly review the development of radical behaviorism and Applied Behavior Analysis, with emphasis on pragmatism, and discuss how RFT fits as a natural evolution of the development of our science and practice.

3. Participants will define mutual entailment, combinatorial entailment, and transformation of stimulus function as fundamental properties of Crel.

4. Participants will define and discuss the relevance of the fundamental components of Cfun: orientation and evaluation, and how they apply to all forms of ABA practice.

About Relational Frame Theory (RFT)

Relational Frame Theory (RFT) has been offered as a functional analytic account for complex human language and cognition. Derived relational responding (DRR), in general, refers to the ability to perform novel responses in the absence of direct teaching. This generalized operant behavior occurs in a variety of novel conditions by relating contextual stimuli together. In other words, relating may be simply defined as responding to one stimulus or stimulus context in terms of another. A specific type of human relating, called Arbitrary Applicable Relational Responding (AARR), manifests as the ability to almost spontaneously generate novel responses based on a shared learning history with other stimuli, including arbitrary items, concepts, and rules.

In contrast to basic stimulus equivalence studies demonstrating DRR, AARR is an entirely verbal process under the control of contextual features beyond the formal properties of the related stimuli or contexts. The implications of building strong learning repertoires in clinical practice through DRR and AARR will be discussed and considered with actual client data. In this presentation, audience members will actively participate in learning tasks that demonstrate uniquely human deriving. Following these demonstrations, a brief introduction to RFT will be offered, as well as clinical data that demonstrate the importance of building these repertoires in learners with language disorders, such as autism.

Prior to joining Apollo, Dr. Moore served as Director of Autism Solutions for Canopy Children’s Solutions in Jackson, MS. Previously, Dr. Moore was the Director of Training for the Master’s Training Program in Applied Behavior Analysis at the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Moore holds a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was the Director of School Consultation and Applied Research at the May Institute in Atlanta, GA before returning home to work as both an academic counselor and Assistant Dean of Students at Pearl River College.

His research has been published in numerous prestigious journals including Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Analysis in Practice, and Behavior Modification to name a few. In 2015, he was appointed as the first chair of the Mississippi Autism Board; the licensure and regulatory board for behavior analysis in the state of Mississippi. In August 2019, Dr. Moore became a Director for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, after being elected to Seat B by his peers.
