OncoLoop: A Network-Based Precision Cancer Medicine Framework — with Alessandro Vasciaveo
About this Event

A very special meeting where we cross the boundary of computer science to visit a place where computer science meets medical research: let's talk precision medicine with Alessandro Vasciaveo. The talk is introductory and it does not assume previous knowledge in precision medicine.

Abstract.

Precision medicine aims to provide tailored medical treatments based on individual patient characteristics. While significant advancements have been made in precision medicine, challenges remain in harnessing the vast amount of biomedical data and extracting meaningful insights to improve patient outcomes. This talk presents an information theoretical approach for precision medicine, demonstrating how principles from information theory can enhance our understanding and application of precision medicine. We discuss how information theory can aid in identifying disease biomarkers, and predicting treatment response. By quantifying the information content and dependencies within patient molecular data, we can uncover crucial patterns and associations that enable personalized and targeted interventions. Finally, we present several case studies and real-world examples where information theoretical approaches have been successfully employed in precision medicine, along with many other machine learning algorithms. Overall, this talk provides an ensemble of the information theoretical approach in precision medicine, emphasizing its potential to transform healthcare by leveraging the power of data-driven insights. The talk represents the author’s personal view and research outcomes.
