About this Event
The SIU Alumni Association and SIU School of Medicine are partnering to offer an enlightening discussion on important matters of medical and public health issues in the post-COVID era.
The evening will feature a presentation from Vidya Sundareshan, M.D., an infectious diseases specialist and medical advisor to the Sangamon County Department of Public Health. Discussions will include:
- Post-COVID medical and public health issues, including COVID syndrome, vaccinations, schools, pediatric and special populations, travel, and the non-emergency phase of COVID.
- Reflections on important lessons learned from the pandemic, locally, nationally, and globally.
- Preparedness for other public health emergencies, like monkey pox.
Admission is free. Refreshments and wine will be served.
About the Speaker
Vidya Sundareshan is a professor and Chief of Infectious Diseases at SIU School of Medicine.
Having completed medical school in India, she received her masters in public health at Johns Hopkins school of Public Health. Following this, she completed a residency in Internal Medicine from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases from the University of Kentucky. She has been on the faculty of SIU School of Medicine’s Infectious Diseases division since 2008. Vidya is the program director for the ID fellowship program. She also serves as medical advisor for Sangamon County Department of Public Health.
Vidya is currently the American College of Physicians ( ACP) Governor for the Ilinois south chapter. She chairs the immunization committee for ACP and holds many leadership roles with ACP in her state and nationally including the editorial board for internist, health and policy committee.
Vidya is passionate about promoting a culture of analytical learning through scholarship and research. She chairs the research scholar program for the students at her medical school and chairs the research lab coalition with the Women in Medicine Summit a national group of scholars collaborating with the common purpose of promoting research.
Vidya continues to participate in educational activities in her home country and other global fora which she really enjoys.
Vidya is the mother of two girls, aged 16 and 11 years and married to a pulmonary critical specialist that works at SIU.
