The mind behind the bestselling Horrible Histories series joins us to celebrate Actually, I'm A Corpse!
About this Event

We are delighted to welcome creator of the bestselling Horrible Histories series Terry Deary to Deansgate, celebrating his second Actually Murders novel: Actually, I'm A Corpse.
Following Actually, I'm a Murderer, his landmark 350th book, the second instalment in Deary's 1970s set series serves up another devilishly plotted, clever and very very funny mystery, as an unlikely sleuthing trio hunts for a killer at loose on the railways.
Terry Deary joins us to discuss this funny, sinister series and answer audience questions.
About Actually, I'm A Corpse
1973. Hours after a mysterious phone call is made to the police, a train pulls into Sunderland station with a dead body on board.

Cause of death: strangulation. Victim: unknown. Witnesses: none.

Undeterred by this baffling set of circumstances, newly promoted Police Sergeant Aline James vows to crack the case and prove her critics wrong. But when her famously ruthless investigation tactics yield no results, she is forced to seek help from two unlikely allies: unassuming assassin John Brown and calamitous actor Tony Davies.

As bodies pile up, can this unusual trio thwart a devilishly complex plot, before one of them, actually, becomes a corpse?
About the Author
TERRY DEARY was born in Sunderland, in the north east of England, and now lives in County Durham. He was a professional actor before he began writing scripts for the theatre company he was working for and then adapting those stories into novels. He has also worked as a theatre director, museum manager, drama teacher and television presenter.

Terry is the creator of the Horrible Histories series and has written both fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, including the No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller A History of Britain in Ten Enemies. He has been apublished writer since 1977, selling over 38 million books in 45 languages, and he has also written for TV, theatre, radio, audio and new media scripts.

Terry's great love has always been reading M**der mysteries and, for his landmark 350th book, he decided to finally write his own. Actually, I'm A Murderer (published in 2025) was his first crime novel and the start of the Actually Murders series.
