The lights go down, the curtain rises. There is nothing like New Year’s Eve in Reynolds Hall. Celebrate 2025 in style at The Smith Center, and take in a glorious night of jazz, swing, and classic standards with Emmy-winning creator, music icon, and comedy genius Seth MacFarlane. This rare, live performance will be led by visionary conductor, Edwin Outwater (San Fransisco Conservatory of Music).
Seth MacFarlane is a five-time Emmy winner, five-time Grammy nominated and Academy Award nominated multi-hyphenate behind some of today’s most popular content in television, music, and film. At 24, he became the youngest showrunner in television history when his animated series "Family Guy" premiered on Fox, for which he holds the tied record for most voice-over Emmy wins of all time. MacFarlane also created and stars in the Emmy-nominated space adventure series, "The Orville: New Horizons" on Hulu, and Peacock’s original comedy "Ted."
MacFarlane also boasts an impressive musical portfolio, having released seven studio albums: "Music is Better Than Words," "Holiday for Swing," "No One Ever Tells You," "In Full Swing," "Once In A While," "Great Songs From Stage & Screen," and "Blue Skies." His eighth album, "We Wish You The Merriest," a holiday duet album with Liz Gillies, was released in 2023. In addition to five Grammy nominations, these albums have garnered MacFarlane several No. 1 debuts on the iTunes Jazz Charts and New Release Jazz pages.
Edwin Outwater is a visionary conductor, curator, and producer known for redefining the concert experience through innovative collaborations with top orchestras, institutions, and artists across genres, from Metallica to Yo-Yo Ma. As Music Director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he shapes its artistic vision, and as Music Director Laureate of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, he garnered international acclaim. He has conducted leading ensembles worldwide, including the New York Philharmonic, BBC Proms, and Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, and serves as the principal conductor for Stewart Copeland’s "Police Deranged for Orchestra." Outwater’s groundbreaking productions, such as "Symphony of Terror" and "A Christmas Gaiety," highlight his creative range, while his contributions to recordings like Mason Bates’s "Philharmonia Fantastique" and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett’s "Portals" underscore his versatility.
