Join us at The Kitchen Garden Café in Birmingham on 2nd February for an entertaining evening of stories and music with punk pioneer Richard ‘Kid’ Strange.
Richard formed the Doctors of Madness in 1975 trailblazing the punk ethic and providing support slots to whippersnappers like the Sex Pistols (who nicked his wallet!), Joy Division and The Jam as well as appearing on the Twiggy show.
'The missing link between David Bowie and The Sex Pistols' (The Guardian May 2017).
In the 80s he started the Cabaret Futura club in Soho that helped launch the career of Marc Almond and Soft Cell. He’s worked with Nick Cave, Patti Smith and Jarvis Cocker invited him to be part of his Meltdown Festival in London.
In his varied acting career, he’s been The Joker’s goon in Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ as well as roles in ‘Gangs of New York’, ‘Mona Lisa’, the last Harry Potter film and on TV, ‘Men Behaving Badly’!!
The Doctors of Madness reformed in 2017 with concerts around the world and a new album ‘Dark Times’. He’s also found time to write his memoir ‘Strange – Punks and Drunks and Flicks and Kicks’, produce a play and tour his show of Lou Reed songs.
Always innovating, always controversial, always entertaining!
Don’t miss this opportunity to catch Richard in this intimate setting to hear his stories and the occasional tune from his extensive back catalogue.
