ABOUT THIS SHOW
The Cedar is honored to host an extraordinary musical convergence as experimental folk virtuoso Paul Metzger joins forces with acclaimed tabla player Krissy Bergmark for a night of musical improvisation.
Metzger will interweave his hypnotic, genre-defying compositions with Bergmark's masterful tabla rhythms, creating a unification of sound that bridges modified stringed instruments and North Indian classical percussion.
This rare collaboration promises to offer listeners an aural escape, dissolving Metzger's liminal drones and intricate fingerpicking into Bergmark's dynamic tabla expertise.
Paul Metzger
Paul Metzger, a two-time recipient of the prestigious McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians (awarded in 2010 and 2018), is renowned for his modified banjo and guitar innovations.
“Metzger’s banjo and guitar contain multitudes. Suspended between past and future, honouring the tradition while hijacking it, listening for its voice while revelling in its inarticulacies; this is how the thing sings. And the song, in the obsessive extensions of Metzger’s instruments, truly has no ending.” –The Wire, David Keenan.
