About this Event
Please join us for an evening with Nedra Glover Tawwab in conversation with Myleik Teele discussing Drama Free: A Guide to Managing Unhealthy Family Relationships at The Carter Center.
Tawwab offers practical tips for common issues and succinctly breaks down complex issues, helping readers answer two essential questions:
1) How can I successfully have relationships with members of my family when there’s an underlying issue?
2) And how can I disconnect from family members when I no longer wish to maintain the relationship?
As a licensed therapist and relationship expert, Tawwab offers clear advice for identifying dysfunctional family patterns and choosing the best path to breaking the cycle and moving forward. Covering topics ranging from the trauma of emotional neglect to the legacy of addicted or absent parents, to mental health struggles in siblings and other relatives, DRAMA FREE delves into:
Unlearning dysfunction: Tawwab illustrates what dysfunction looks like and defines typical unhealthy dynamics, including trauma, boundary violations, codependency, enmeshment, and addiction.
Healing: learn how to manage relationships with people who won’t change, or end relationships because people won’t change.
Growing: discover how to troubleshoot the different types of family relationships: parents, siblings, extended family, adult children, in-laws, and blended families.
