The Bay County Library System is happy to announce a special spring author event featuring acclaimed novelist, memoirist, and playwright Monica Wood. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the historic State Theatre in Bay City. Admission is completely free and open to the public, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Friends of the Bay County Library System.Monica Wood, a celebrated literary voice and the 2024 recipient of the prestigious Sara Josepha Hale Award, is known for her deeply moving and masterfully crafted works. Her most recent novel, How to Read a Book, is a national bestseller that explores themes of redemption, unlikely friendships, and the transformative power of sharing stories. Another of her acclaimed works, The One-in-a-Million Boy, has been published in 22 languages across 30 countries and has earned numerous accolades, including the Nautilus Award (Gold) and the New England Society Book Award.
Wood’s memoir, When We Were the Kennedys, is a New England bestseller that won the May Sarton Memoir Award, while her novel Any Bitter Thing was an American Booksellers Association bestseller. Her body of work includes novels, memoirs, widely anthologized short stories that earned a Pushcart Prize, and plays such as Papermaker, the bestselling production in Portland Stage history, and The Half-Light, which premiered to critical acclaim. Her nonfiction has appeared in Oprah Magazine, The New York Times, and Parade.
In addition to her celebrated novels, memoirs, and plays, Monica Wood is also a respected resource for fiction writers, offering guidance and inspiration through her nonfiction works.
