About this Event
John Francis O’Mara is an Episcopalian priest, Liberation Theology scholar, and singer-songwriter whose music has taken him from cathedrals to prisons to UN gatherings, drawing on Celtic Christianity, Black liberation theology, and the Americana and folk traditions of his Irish-American roots. His 2025 album Forbidden Hymns — produced in Nashville with Grammy-winning Ken Coomer, featuring musicians from the bands of Marty Stuart and Lucinda Williams, and including a co-write with John Carter Cash — tackles injustice, grief, democracy, and the liberating core of faith with what Sojourners called the haunting quality of Springsteen. Shane Claiborne has called him “a poet and instigator of movements.” He holds degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and General Theological Seminary and is completing his doctorate in Theology and Social Justice at Howard University.
John Francis will offer a follow-up workshop the following day, Saturday 20th Junt at Harbour Faith Community, 8A Governers Place, Carrickfergus.
