Emmeline Pankhurst's suffragettes started in a front room in this city. A hundred years on, the fight for equal representation isn't finished. It's just moved rooms.
Join us at The Bonded Warehouse in in Manchester City Centre for a live conversation with Dr Helen Pankhurst CBE: women's rights activist, campaigner, and great-granddaughter of Emmeline and granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst. Hosted by ROM, founder of Raising the Glass, we'll talk about the name Helen was born into, the work she's built since, and what it actually takes to close the gap before 2028, the centenary of equal franchise.
Those choosing to continue into the evening by attending a group visit to see the Sylvia musical make their way from The Bonded Warehouse to The Lowry theatre in Salford Quays to watch that same story land on stage: Sylvia, the hip-hop show telling Sylvia Pankhurst's story, at The Lowry.
The whole night is scored by the same idea. Sylvia is told in hip-hop. Hip Pop is our lead partner. It’s the reason this partnership exists, and they're the ones pouring the drinks and putting their name behind the room where the real conversation happens.
Every penny goes to the two charities GM4Women2028 and Centenary Action.
