About this Event
As one of Winnipeg’s most significant social justice events to date, we are honoured to host academic giant, Dr. Michael Lynk, the former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine and Associate Professor of Law at Western University.
On Friday, October 18th, Dr. Lynk will deliver an in-depth presentation, “The Case for Palestine: International Law and the Quest for Justice” that will shed light on the parameters of international law, focusing on its application and violations in Palestine, and giving special attention to Gaza.
Drawing from his vast expertise and background in international law and human rights, Dr. Lynk will also discuss the recent International Criminal Court (ICC) and International Court of Justice (ICJ) rulings, and usher in both personal and academic insights into the ongoing situation.
Can international law prevail in Palestine? How can we balance international law and Western hegemony? The former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine will provide a viable solution that explores the interplay between international law and the quest for justice.
This landmark event is co-sponsored by some of Canada’s leading social justice organizations, including Canadian Muslims for Palestine (CMP), Peace Alliance Winnipeg (PAW), Independent Jewish Voices Winnipeg (IJV), Canadian Palestinian Association of Manitoba (CPAM), University of Manitoba Muslim Students' Association (UMMSA), Diversity for Palestine (D4P) and Faculty for Palestine (F4P).
Given its academic focus, the event will be held at the University of Manitoba, Engineering Atrium, Room E3-270 (Main Floor). Information tables by our co-sponsors and art displays/sales will begin at 6:30 pm.
Seating is limited, and reservations are essential, so secure your spot today. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Register today at bit.ly/lynk2024. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to meet Dr. Lynk in person and learn why Palestine stands on the right side of history.
