The Right to Bear Arms: A History
The right to bear arms is one of our nation’s most fundamental and vital protections. The Second Amendment rights of Americans are non-negotiable and are not open to infringement. There is no clause restricting or qualifying this right, or limiting it to merely target practice and hunting. The right to defend one’s self and one’s family applies to EVERY American.
The Wisconsin Forum 2022-23 season continues on Thursday, February 16, with Charles C.W. Cooke, senior writer for the National Review. Cooke is a staunch advocate of the right to keep and bear arms, he has described the "collective right" theory of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution as "utterly farcical" and "the legal equivalent of Moon Landing trutherism." Cooke will discuss the history of the right to keep and bear arms starting with pre-revolutionary America, running through the Civil War and Jim Crow, and ending with our present-day debate over gun rights.
