Join the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image & Sound (TAMIS) for a FREE screening of the acclaimed documentary “You Gave Me a Song,” which chronicles Alice Gerrard’s extraordinary life and musical legacy. It will be followed by a live performance by Alice and her bandmates Tatiana Hargreaves and Reed Stutz!
Alice Gerrard is a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist who has performed and advocated for old-time and bluegrass music for over 50 years. Her four recordings with Hazel Dickens during the 1960s and 1970s influenced a generation of women musicians from Laurie Lewis to the Judds.
This event is presented in conjunction with the Birthplace of Country Music Museums’s exhibition “I’ve Endured: Women in Old-Time Music,” currently on display at the Museum of East Tennessee History.
The historic night is made possible in part by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission in partnership with the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville, the Friends of the Knox County Public Library, and the Bijou Theatre.
