About this Event
On Thursday 14 November at 7pm, Waterstones Leeds will welcome some of Yorkshire’s finest sports writers for a very special Leeds United evening, hosted by author and Elland Road regular James Oddy (and also Leeds Rugby fan, and author of Blue and Amber Voices: Stories from Leeds Rugby League).
Rocco Dean & Gary Edwards – Don Revie's lasting influence on Leeds UnitedProlific Leeds United writers Rocco Dean (Sons of Revie: Leeds United's Decade of Dominance) and Gary Edwards (Summer of 63: Revie's Plan for Leeds United) will join forces to discuss the lasting legacy left by Don Revie, who for many is still considered the club’s finest manager. Winning a host of silverware, before accepting the England job, Revie remains revered at Elland Road, and has been the subject of countless books, column inches and discussions down the years – Rocco and Gary explain why.
Dave Tomlinson & Andrew Dalton – Howard Wilkinson and Leeds United in the late 1980s and early 1990sFocusing on how Howard Wilkinson revitalised Leeds United, and led them to promotion from the Second Division in 1988/89, and within three years in the top division won the English Championship. Howard remains the last English manager to win the top division. Dave Tomlinson, author of The Man with the Plan: Howard Wilkinson's Leeds United and Andrew Dalton co-author of Leeds United Forgotten Games will discuss Wilkinson’s achievements with host James Oddy.
Robert Endeacott & Neil Barker – Leeds United's recent history and why Bielsa was such a successful fit at Elland RoadCo-authors Robert Endeacott and Neil Barker, who wrote Leeds United Memorabilia: A History of United Artefacts and Paraphernalia, use the club’s history to explain exactly why Marcelo Bielsa was such a huge success for Leeds United – leading them back to the Premier League for the first time in 20 years – and why the connection he had with Leeds fans was so strong.
