Sanskrit mantras are woven into melodies - the drone of the harmonium is combined with stirring vocals and the heart beat of the drum. Experience the energy and vibrations of communal singing, connecting to the Divine and each other in this meditative, peaceful, uplifting practice of Bhakti Yoga.
All are welcome. No previous experience is required. Chant sheets will be available.
This is an event in the spirit of dana (generosity/giving freely). Donations are joyfully accepted and will be shared with the yoga studio.
Location and Parking:
Nordeast Yoga studio is located above Minari Restaurant on the west corner of 13th and University Avenues in Northeast Minneapolis. Street parking is available on 13th and University Avenues (yes, you can park on University Ave, effectively “blocking” one of the lanes). There is a parking lot on 13th Ave (East of University Ave) that is open for the public after 6pm.
The entrance door to the building is on University Ave. The studio is on the 3rd floor, accessible by stairs. Turn right on top of the stairs and follow the long hallway, then turn left. Please leave your shoes outside the studio door. There are some chairs, as well as bolsters and blankets available. Feel free to bring your own cushion.
About Chanting (aka kirtan):
Kirtan is the sacred tradition of call-and-response chanting, brought to us from India. Kirtan is one of the principal activities of Bhakti Yoga (the path of devotion). The chants come from the Hindu tradition, but people of all faiths and cultural backgrounds participate in kirtan - it is in essence a meditation, repeating the names of the God, turning inward towards ourselves.
We experience the energy and vibrations of communal singing, connecting to the Divine and each other, opening our hearts and quieting our minds. Everyone participating contributes to the experience, emanating loving energy to the universe.
About the artist:
Kirtan Path has been singing with the greater Twin Cities kirtan community since 2009. They also participated in many Midwestern chant events over the years, such as the Twin Cities Kirtan Festival, the Twin Cities Yoga Festival, India in Iowa, the Inner Peace Festival, Bhakti Fest Midwest, Midwest Yoga and Kirtan Fest, Great Mother Chant, Kirtan Fest Milwaukee, Circle of Celebration and Soul Family ReUnion.
Kirtan Path released one album to date, titled Samgayati - A Gathering in Song.
