An Evening of Reflection: Yom HaShoah Commemoration
Schedule
Tue Apr 14 2026 at 05:00 pm to 08:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA, United States, Louisiana 70130 | New Orleans, LA
The moving commemoration ceremony will include remarks from members of the local Jewish community and Museum Trustee Caren Rubin, whose father, Mark Rubin (1937–2021), was a Holocaust survivor and longtime Museum Trustee, as well as a performance from the New Voices New Orleans choir.
Following the ceremony, historian Jason Dawsey, PhD, of Arizona State University will be joined by playwright Dodd Loomis and Holocaust survivor Rose Lefkowitz-Rosenkranz for a panel discussion exploring the creation and meaning of Only Miracles, Loomis's theatrical work based on the extraordinary true story of Rose’s parents, Ed and Helen Lefkowitz. The conversation will examines how Rose’s family history—spanning Nazi-occupied Poland, the Soviet Gulag system, and postwar displacement—was transformed into a stage production, and why these Eastern European and Soviet experiences are essential to understanding the full scope of the Holocaust.
A reception from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. will precede the event and will include hors d'oeuvres, as well as an open bar for beer and wine.
