About this Event
An Evening of Opera at M.S. Rau
"Morgiane" is the earliest extant grand opera composed by a Black American. To celebrate this landmark premiere, please join us for a cocktail reception and panel discussion on the artistic world of New Orleans composer Edmond Dédé. OperaCréole's Givonna Joseph and M.S. Rau's Emily Ontranto apply their expertise to Dédé's fascinating contribution to the 19th-century artistic environment in which he composed this opera, including references to works in the Rau collection. Patrick Dupre Quigley, Opera Lafayette Artistic Director Designate and New Orleans native, will moderate. Enjoy a performance of excerpts from "Morgiane" by OperaCréole musicians prior to its January 2025 debut.
Cocktails begin at 5:30
Panel Discussion and Music begin at 6:15
