This exciting new series invites Jersey City residents to gather in a relaxed, social space to learn something new and spark great conversations. It’s all about connecting with your neighbors and discovering ideas that make our city even stronger.
“Where there is a woman, there is magic.” This June, get ready to enjoy an evening of literature and music with Dr. Melanie R. Hill, as she gives a book talk and live violin performance featuring her new book, “Colored Women Sittin’ on High: Womanist Sermonic Practice in Literature and Music.” From the womanist literary cadence of Zora Neale Hurston, Alice Walker, Ntozake Shange, and Toni Morrison to the rhythmic sounds of R&B, Soul, and Gospel, from Aretha Franklin to Ms. Lauryn Hill, “Sound Falls ‘Round Me Like Rain,” highlights Black women writers, musicians, preachers, and activists as the virtuosic alchemists of our time.
We’re excited to host the 2nd Curious Pint at Liberty Science Center, 2nd Floor Planetarium —so come, meet new people, and be part of something special for Jersey City. JCFPL Library Card holders receive discounted drinks, and we’ll have library card sign-ups on site!
