Stories are powerful. In her keynote presentation, Nicole Nfonoyim-Hara traces her journey as a reader, writer, and founder of Griot Arts alongside the powerful lineage of Black-owned bookstores—from David Ruggles’ 19th-century abolitionist and feminist bookshop to a new generation of cultural literary spaces. She invites audiences to explore the griot’s call to cultivate imagination, keep stories, make magic, carry light, and help our communities “live through one more darkness with eyes wide open and hearts set alight.”
