The CAT Club presents . . .AN AUDIENCE WITH KEN SCOTT
Producer & Engineer Extraordinaire
Ken Scott joined the staff at Abbey Road in 1964 at the tender age of sixteen. His first job was in the tape library, and within six months he was promoted to 2nd engineer (known then as a "button pusher"), where his first session was on side two of the Beatles' album 'A Hard Day's Night.'
His first session as a full engineer was on the Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour' EP, followed by work on the 'White Album.'
As well as the Beatles, Ken also worked, as first and second engineer, with some of the biggest names of the sixties including Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, Procol Harum, Scaffold, Mary Hopkin, The Pretty Things, Manfred Mann, Peter and Gordon, the Hollies, Judy Garland, Peter Sellers, Johnny Mathis, Cliff Richard & the Shadows.
After leaving Abbey Road, Ken’s engineering skills were featured on records by George Harrison, Elton John, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Duran Duran and many more.
Moving into production saw Ken at the helm with Bowie on 'Hunky Dory' and 'Ziggy Stardust' at Trident Studios. Supertramp, Nilsson, Lou Reed, Rick Wakeman, America, Al Kooper, Lindisfarne, The Rolling Stones, Level 42, Devo, The Tubes, Kansas and many others followed onto Ken Scott’s extraordinary engineering and production CV.
As well as being influential in the evolution of jazz rock, Ken also received the coveted Clio Award in 1973 for best music and lyrics for the legendary ad, 'I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke' recorded at Trident Studios for Coca-Cola.
His critically acclaimed memoir, 'Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust' was published in 2012.
Happy Trails.
