An Artist Talk with Chantal Peñalosa

Join us for a presentation of recent and on-going works by 2021 Lit & Luz Festival participant and visual artist, Chantal Peñalosa, hosted by the Open Practice Committee. Peñalosa’s research based practice stems from small gestures and interventions in everyday life, which are meant to expound upon notions of labour, waiting and delay. In this presentation, Peñalosa will speak to her use of repetition, a crucial element in her process, and how it functions as an allusion to the absurdity, weathering, and alienating effects of work.

Acompáñenos para una charla y presentación de parte de la artista visual y participante del Festival Lit & Luz 2021, Chantal Peñalosa, organizada por el Comité de Práctica Abierta. La práctica de Peñalosa está basada en la investigación de pequeños gestos e intervenciones en la vida cotidiana, que pretenden exponer las nociones de trabajo, espera y demora. En esta presentación, Peñalosa hablará sobre su uso de la repetición, un elemento crucial en su proceso, y cómo funciona como una alusión al absurdo, la erosión y los efectos alienantes del trabajo.

Save the date! The Lit & Luz Festival returns November 1-6, 2021. Through this year’s theme, “Structure,” participants will consider the physical structures that house us, political and societal structures that surround us, and much more.

The 2021 Chicago festival will be hybrid and feature both virtual and in-person programs including readings, conversations, and workshops. We’re excited to announce that the one-and-only Live Magazine Show will be presented in partnership with the University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts.
