Jazz Trio Bio
Nicola Farnon - vocals and double bass
Nicola Farnon, one of the UK's top jazz and swing singers and double bassists, has a rich musical background with professional classical musician parents and great uncle Robert Farnon.
After starting on cello and piano, she began her 30-year jazz career in her twenties. Regularly performing at top venues and festivals, including Glastonbury, she has also toured Ukraine and appeared on BBC Radio 3. Farnon has collaborated with jazz greats like Dave Newton, Digby Fairweather, Jim Mullen, and Alan Barnes. Known for her passionate style and charismatic stage presence, she captivates any audience
Richard Wetherall - piano
Richard has worked with some of the ﬁnest jazz musicians including Alan Skidmore, Bobby Wellins and Mike Walker as well as running his own trio and working his solo material. He has featured twice live on radio ‘Jazz Lineup’ and has toured worldwide with Dominic Halpin and the Honeybees. His various accolades include supporting Tony Bennett with his quartet; composer/arranger for The Three Musketeers; (Robert Lyndsey) and; Going the Distance’ (Steven Fry, Matthew Kelly and Sarah Hadland). He teaches at LIPS and Manchester University, coaches at Chethams Piano Summer school and accompanies various choirs in the Manchester area.
Phil Johnson - drums
Phil began honing his drumming skills in The Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra. He has since backed many jazz artists including David Newton, Jim Mullen,Bobby Shew, Alan Barnes, John Etheridge and Barbara Thompson. Phil is also a much in demand big band player with an impressive gig back catalogue that includes The Squadronnaires, The Memphis Belle Swing Orchestra, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra UK and The Kings of Swing Orchestra
