An Afternoon with Ruby John and John Warstler

Ruby John is a Traditional Fiddler and a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Ruby learned to play from many Michigan fiddlers. and at numerous music camps and workshops throughout Michigan and Ontario, Canada. Ruby plays a variety of styles, including Old Time, French Canadian, Metis, Irish and Bluegrass.

Since Ruby was young, she would sit behind fiddlers at contra and square dances, and she thinks that's where the drive in her fiddling comes from. Ruby has grown into her own as a fiddler, and has performed all around the US and Canada.

In their appearance at the ArtRat Americana Sundays series, Ruby and guitarist John Warstler will present a variety of fiddle tunes, sing some songs, and tell stories of Ruby's journey to blend her fiddling and her Native heritage.
