Helen Whybrow has written a wonderful memoir about being a modern-day shepherd and what that means for her, her family, her connection to the land, and for the sheep themselves. I loved this book and I think so many up here will, too. It's about sheep, but so much more that sheep - trust me on this!
Nominated for the 2025 New England Book Award for Nonfiction, The Salt Stones is about life on Knoll Farm in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains. Whybrow and her partner set out to restore an old two-hundred-acre farm, they begin to intertwine their lives with the land. But soon after releasing a flock of Icelandic sheep onto the worn-out fields, Whybrow realizes that the art of shepherding extends far beyond the flock and fences.
Join us at the Pope Memorial Library for a wonderful afternoon of discussion of family, land, nature, farming, and sheep! Books will be available at the event, or at the store beforehand - please do not bring books purchased elsewhere - and Whybrow will be happy to sign after the program.
