Please join us for an afternoon with Dutch crime writers as they present their anthology Dutch Treats, which collects 21 short crime stories by Dutch and Flemish authors, all translated into English by Josh Pachter and originally published in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and other magazines and anthologies. Several of the contributors (Mensje van Keulen, Gert-Jan van den Bemd, Els Depuydt, Carla Vermaat, Marlen Visser and Christine Otten) will attend the event to talk about their stories and sign copies of the book.
About the book
Since the 1980s, American crime writer Josh Pachter has been translating short crime fiction by Dutch and Flemish authors into English for Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and other publications. In , he collects 21 of his favorite translations by a who's who of contemporary Dutch-language crime writers, including such luminaries as René Appel, Michael Berg, Dominique Biebau, Bram Dehouck, Loes den Hollander, Bavo Dhooge, Ingrid Oonincx, Christine Otten, Marjolein van der Gaag, Hilde Vandermeeren, Bob Van Laerhoven, Mensje van Keulen, and more.
About the editor
Josh Pachter is an author, editor, and translator of crime fiction. More than 130 of his own short stories have appeared in American magazines, and he has translated almost a hundred stories, novels, graphic novels, memoirs, and books of nonfiction by Dutch and Flemish authors into English. His collection Dutch Threat was a finalist for the Agatha, Lefty, and Macavity awards, and he co-edited the anthology Amsterdam Noir with René Appel. He was the 2020 recipient of the Short Mystery Fiction Society's Golden Derringer for Lifetime Achievement.
