As the starting point for AMPP’s Basic Corrosion course, it explains the fundamentals, what corrosion is, why metals corrode, and how inspection differs from monitoring. You’ll come away with a clear understanding of corrosion’s significance across industries and be better prepared to build on these concepts in more advanced training.

If so, this half-day introductory course is the perfect place to start. As the first step toward AMPP’s Fundamentals of Protective Coatings (C1) course, it covers the essentials: the role of coatings in corrosion prevention, common coating types, surface preparation requirements, and application methods. You’ll also learn how inspectors ensure coatings perform as intended. By the end, you’ll have the foundational knowledge to make informed decisions and be ready to advance into the full C1 course.
