Ampersand presents a traditional music concert at the Old State House to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Traditional music, but NOT traditional “love songs” – we sing to the love of an Irish castle, unrequited love in the 17th century, modern love gone wrong, and blues songs that both celebrate and lament love in its most elemental form.This family-friendly, upbeat musical group soars with tight vocal harmonies, and the driving, chunky sound of traditional instruments! Ampersand interprets music from the folk and old-tyme American traditions on modern instruments with treasured songs and lively instrumentals — we find great joy in bringing this music to modern ears.
The core of Ampersand is Beth Lawton and Dick Hogle, whose duo work shines with the spark of vocal harmonies and a shared musical sensibility.

The Old State House concert series is presented by Delaware Friends of Folk. These events are supported by a grant from the Kent County Fund for the Arts, an organization that aims to enhance the quality of life, educate, and broaden perspectives by supporting the arts and arts organizations in Kent County. Support is also provided by the First State Heritage Park, a partnership of State and City agencies under the leadership of Delaware State Parks and the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs. Delaware Friends of Folk are partially supported by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
