The World Cup is coming to Atlanta and the celebration begins with music!
Before Spain and Cape Verde make history in Atlanta's first-ever FIFA World Cup match, join the Atlanta Music Project World Music Festival for a spectacular evening that brings the sounds, spirit, and traditions of both nations to life.
On Sunday, June 14 at 5:00 PM, the Atlanta Music Project World Music Festival Orchestra, led by John Young Shik Concklin, will take audiences on a thrilling musical journey across Spain, Cape Verde, and the United States in a concert filled with passion, virtuosity, and unforgettable melodies.
The evening's centerpiece features acclaimed guitarist Thomas Flippin performing Joaquín Rodrigo's beloved Concierto de Aranjuez, one of the most famous and emotionally stirring guitar concertos ever written. Its soaring melodies and Spanish flair have captivated audiences around the world for generations.
Representing Cape Verde, the orchestra will perform The Voices of Cape Verde, an original work by composer Nicole Hardin inspired by the country's most cherished songs and musical traditions. Rich with rhythm, color, and heart, this powerful piece celebrates the vibrant culture of a country that will be making their first ever appearance at the World Cup.
The program also showcases beloved American works by Aaron Copland, Florence Price, and Morton Gould, creating a musical celebration that spans continents and cultures.
Whether you're a soccer fan, a music lover, or simply looking for a unique Atlanta experience, this is the perfect way to kick off World Cup festivities.
