Gästföreläsare Corey Dolgon, professor i sociologi vid Stonehill College, USA. Han kommer att föreläsa om "amerikansk fascism, antifascism och dess globala implikationer". Såhär presenterar han sin föreläsning:
Ett land som påstås vara född fritt (med statsvetaren Louis Hartz ord) där fascism "aldrig skulle kunna hända", har fascismen egentligen varit en del av USA:s nationella DNA sedan nationens konstituerande. Dess manifestationer har dock sällan varit så djärva som nu. Delvis kommer den här presentationen att titta på de historiska rötterna till våra fascistiska element – det som Henry Giroux har kallat vår "protofascism”. Som historikern Robert Paxton skrev skulle det finnas "Inga hakkors i en amerikansk fascism, men Stars and Stripes och kristna kors. Ingen fascistisk hälsning, utan upprepanden av trohetseden... Dessa symboler innehåller ingen doft av fascism i sig själva, men en amerikansk fascism skulle förvandla dem till ett obligatoriskt lackmustest för att upptäcka den inre fienden." Därför kommer jag att titta på hur den här historiska tendensen har omskapats till ett mäktigt fascistiskt ögonblick för nationen och hur det förhåller sig till en liknande fascistisk utveckling som sker i övriga världen. Slutligen tittar jag på USAs antifascistisk rörelse och dess potential som en nationell och global strategi för motstånd och en ny vision om frigörelse.
Professor Dolgon är redaktör för “The Oxford Handbook of Sociology for Social Justice” (2024). Han har tidigare publicerat “The End of the Hamptons: Scenes from the Class Struggle in American’s Paradise” (2005) och “K*ll it to Save it: An Autopsy of Capitalism’s triumph Over Democracy” (2017). Nu håller han på med en ny bok, ”American Fascism”, som kommer att publiceras av New York University Press.

Guest lecturer Corey Dolgon, professor in Sociology at Stonehill College, USA. He will lecture on “American Fascism, Anti-Fascism and its Global Implications”:
For a country supposedly born free (in the words of Political Scientist, Louis Hartz) where Fascism could "never happen", Fascism has actually been a part of the national DNA of the US since the nations's inception. Its manifestation, however, has rarely been this bold. In part, this presentation will look at the historical roots of our fascist elements—what Henry Giroux has called our "proto-fascism. As Historian Robert Paxton wrote, there would be "No swastikas in an American fascism, but Stars and Stripes and Christian crosses. No fascist salute, but recitations of the pledge of allegiance... These symbols contain no whiff of fascism in themselves, but an American fascism would transform them into an obligatory litmus test for detecting the internal enemy." Thus, I will look at how this history has metamorphosed into a powerful fascist moment for the nation and how that relates to a similar fascist moment developing around the world. Finally, I want to look at America's anti-fascist movement and its potential as a national and global strategy for resistance and a new vision of liberation.
Professor Dolgon is the editor of The Oxford Handbook of Sociology for Social Justice (2024).
