Students at this level should have had little or no exposure to American Sign Language (ASL.) Instruction and student response at this level are recommended to be in ASL only. The course will cover the pathological and cultural aspects of Deafness which includes the ear and hearing loss as well as an introduction to Deaf Culture and Deaf Community. Additionally, the course will cover fingerspelling, numbers, ASL grammar, facial expressions, vocabulary and basic ASL sentence construction. It is recommended that students have minimal contact within the Deaf community as a requirement of this course
