Join us for an exploration of American Gothic literature in this highly participative course! From the nightmarish landscapes of Edgar Allan Poe and Ambrose Bierce to the darkly drawn characters of Joyce Carol Oates by way of the twisted tales of anxiety of Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Shirley Jackson the Gothic is deeply ingrained in American Literature.
Along six sessions we will discuss the birth of the Gothic in America (with Charles Brockden Brown) and some short stories by all these authors and we will learn what makes American Gothic both American and Gothic!
Every Wednesday from 5.45-6.45pm at Cambridge Central Library, starting on Wednesday 30 October and running until 4 December. All welcome!
Free but spaces are limited so booking is essential. Your booking will give you access to all six sessions: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/american-gothic-literature-course-tickets-1003648769487
