As WWII comes to a close, women glassworkers begin losing their highly-skilled, good-paying jobs. Although women had made great strides in earning respectability and leadership roles in the American Flint Glassworkers Union, their union brothers are not willing to go the distance to ensure that they achieve parity in pay or position. At first, Jean Elizabeth Gould, who works at Fostoria Glass in Moundsville, cares little about her Flint sisters. She is obsessed with finding her father. During her efforts, she learns that it’s really her lack of community connection that makes her feel incomplete. Reluctantly becoming more active in union activities, one day she collapses on the picket line, which leads to an unspooling of all that she has come to know and understand. Christina Fisanick is a writer-of-most-genres and an expert in a few. She specializes in creative non-fiction and digital storytelling. "American Glass" is her first novel. She recently added art to her areas of deep study and practice. In addition to being a writer, Christina is Professor of English at Pennsylvania Western University–California, where she teaches expository writing, digital storytelling, and creative non-fiction. She and her honors students have collaborated for the past decade with the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh to create more than 300 digital stories focusing on northern Appalachian culture. Christina is the President of the Writers Association of Northern Appalachia and is the co-host of the WANA LIVE!: Reading Series, a weekly livestream featuring writers from throughout northern Appalachia.
