The first-ever live U.S. launch of the Socialist Register with Monthly Review
About this Event

Building upon more than a half century of sustained analysis of the evolving political economy of contemporary capitalism—and in particular the challenges it poses to the left— puzzles through the rubble left behind after decades of rampant neoliberalism.

  • What kind of world order is now emerging?
  • Is capitalism entering a terminal crisis, or being violently reconstituted?
  • How is American empire being reshaped from Palestine to New York?
  • And what possibilities remain for socialist politics in an age of ecological breakdown, geopolitical fracture, and resurgent authoritarianism?

Ibrahim Shikaki, Costas Lapavitsas and Paul Heideman, three contributors to this year's Socialist Register volume, will consider these and other question in conversation with co-editor Steve Maher and the new editor of Monthly Review Press, Arun Kundnani.

About the Socialist Register:

The late, great Mike Davis described the Socialist Register as “…the intellectual lodestar for the international left since 1964.” Every year over the past 6+ decades, the Socialist Register (published by Monthly Review Press) has offered a fascinating survey of movements and ideas.

For the contents of this year's Socialist Register, see:

The Socialist Register has been around for more than half a century, but this is the first-ever live U.S. launch of the Socialist Register in decades, if ever. This is also your chance to come meet Monthly Review Press' new editor, Arun Kundnani, in person, alongside the relatively new coeditor of the Socialist Register, Steve Maher.

Please join us on Thursday the 28th of May!
