About this Event
Spies. Nurses. Laundresses. Factory Workers. Soldiers. What do all of these have in common? They’re all roles that women in the American Civil War held! Although the Civil War often brings to mind long columns of soldiers in blue or gray, standing shoulder to shoulder with their bayonets glinting in the sun, neglecting a study of women on the home front and the fighting front is a fatal flaw. In this robust, engaging discussion on the various roles of women in the Civil War, we’ll dive right into a lesser-studied part of history to expand our knowledge of past females’ non-traditional gender roles.
