About this Event
American Border Religion
Join us at American University for “American Border Religion,” a thought-provoking talk with Professor Elizabeth Shakman Hurd. Based on her new book Heaven Has a Wall, Professor Hurd examines the complexities and contradictions of U.S. borders — boundaries that are enforced and ignored, visible and invisible, here and elsewhere. This lecture invites us to reflect on how borders shape identities, policies, and power, and why they are far more than lines on a map. Everyone has a border story — come explore what America’s borders truly mean.
