America Will Be!

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States this July 4th, this program by Crossroads explores whether America has lived up to its lauded ideas, especially in a time of increased violence against immigrant communities. In the program note for his composition ‘America Will Be!’ featured in our concert, composer Joel Thompson describes his experience as an American immigrant as containing ‘friction between professed ideals and painful reality.’ The program will elevate stories and compositions by American immigrants. Featured on this concert is the world premiere of ‘What You Have Done to Them’ composed by Crossroads member Quinn Vincent, sharing stories of those who have suffered at the hands of ICE. In addition, Crossroads will be collaborating with award-winning Detroit singer-songwriter Audra Kubat. We hope this program opens your heart, mind, and ears to the voices of our neighbors and that it inspires you to protect them in a time of heightened targeted violence.
