America 250: Exploring the Past, Present & Future Influence of First Ladies

Since Martha Washington served as the “mother of the country” at the start of the nation’s founding 250 years ago, only about 50 women have served in the role of first lady. It’s an unpaid role that’s not in the Constitution, leaving these women to mold their own paths as symbols of American womanhood, power, and influence.
