The Amazigh New Year celebration is returning to Boston!Scheduled for January 10, 2026, this festive gathering will mark Yennayer, the Amazigh people’s New Year, a celebration observed for centuries to celebrate the beginning of the agricultural calendar.
In Boston, Yennayer has been celebrated since the late 2000s, bringing the community together through vibrant live music, folkloric dances, traditional pastries and refreshments, as well as workshops and presentations that showcase Amazigh history and traditions. These cultural expressions highlight both the significance of Yennayer and the Amazigh people’s lasting contributions to North African heritage.
The celebration also provides a unique opportunity to learn more about Tamazight, the Amazigh language, its script Tifinagh, and current efforts to preserve and promote it.
Open to all, the event promises to be both a festive and educational experience for all ages, fostering community, pride, and cultural exchange among Amazigh people in the diaspora and everyone interested in this ancient North African culture.
*Free tickets for kids under 15 years old.
