Sporty Girls is hosting an amateur women's pickleball tournament as a fundraiser to benefit Storytime Books (storytimebooks05.org).
About this Event

Sporty Girls is hosting a for-fun amateur pickleball tournament to benefit Storytime Books, a nonprofit organization that gives children's books to families who need them.

The recreational division (also known as the "chill" division) is for players new to the sport and/or less-competitive players. This division will be monitored! Do not sandbag; known competitive players who register in this division will be moved to the Open division (if space is available) or disqualified (with no refund). The Sporty Organizers reserve the right to reclassify or disqualify sandbagging players upon observation of play at any time.

Players and fans are expected to comport themselves with courtesy, integrity, and good sportsmanship.

Tournament format

  • Eight doubles teams play four randomly drawn pool games for seeding 1st through 8th place
  • All games are to 11 (must win by 2)
  • All teams advance to a single-elimination bracket
  • Championship match will be "best of three games"
  • Paddle spin to call "Serve" or "Side" (winner chooses to serve or pick side)

No referees: Players call their own lines and faults and keep their own scores. Scoresheet is initialed by each team; winning team submits scoresheet to the TD.

Nets: Portable nets will be set up on the four badminton courts. The height and tautness of a net can be adjusted by agreement of both teams on that court.

Balls: Indoor balls will be provided for each court.

All other rules are according to the USA Pickleball 2023 Rulebook.

Prizes

Both partners of the first-place team will receive $50 VISA gift cards.

Donations of gift cards, goody bag items, and children's books are requested!

  • If you can donate a $50 gift card or goody bag item, please send an email to [email protected].
  • If you would like to donate children's books (ages 0 to 5), bring them to the tournament and look for the donation station.
  • If you would like to make a general donation to Storytime Books or host a book drive, visit https://storytimebooks05.org/how-to-donate/.
