About the Instructor:

Zakeeya “Zee” Birchett is a professional dancer, instructor, and choreographer from Richmond, VA, and the co-founder of @dancewithamapianodmv, based in Washington, DC.

With over a decade of experience in the dance industry, Zee began her journey in traditional West African dance and has since expanded her expertise across a variety of styles. Her talent and dedication have led her to travel and perform alongside renowned African artists such as Asake, Rema, Uncle Waffles, and more.

For the past three years, Zee has devoted herself to studying and mastering Amapiano, passionately refining her craft and deepening her understanding of the movement and culture behind it. Now, she’s excited to share her knowledge and experience with others, inspiring others through her dance journey.

Info: We’ll begin with a guided warm-up to get the body moving and set the tone for class. This is our time to shake off tension, get comfortable in the space, and prepare to learn and move confidently.

Info: Next, we’ll build your Amapiano dance foundation with fun, dynamic steps, body awareness, and a touch of cultural context that brings each move to life.

Info: Take a moment to recharge - hydrate, stretch, connect, or just vibe out to some Amapiano music. This is your time to breathe and reset before we bring the energy back up.

Info: In the second half, we’ll put it all together through choreography that challenges you to apply your technique, feel the music, and express your individuality. Expect a supportive environment where you can push yourself, have fun, and let your confidence shine.
