Alzheimer's Health Talk Event

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing public health crisis affecting millions worldwide and Black Americans are about twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s as white Americans. This event will explore why this disparity exists and what can be done to fight it.

Join us for an informative discussion on what Alzheimer’s and dementia are, how they impact our community, and the role of factors like high blood pressure, chronic stress, sleep, and diet play in prevention. Learn practical ways to protect your brain health and take part in an open Q&A with experts in the field.

The speaker for this event is Dr. Charles Windon, an Assistant Professor of Neurology at UCSF’s Memory and Aging Center, where he specializes in the care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. His research focuses on improving early detection and diagnosis among diverse and historically underrepresented populations, while exploring how social and cultural factors impact brain health.

He earned his BA from Princeton University and his MD from Rutgers–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completing neurology residency at UCLA and a behavioral neurology fellowship at UCSF.

Dr. Windon’s work has been supported by the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Institute on Aging. He is the recipient of multiple honors, including the Solomon Carter Fuller Award, John A. Watson Faculty Scholar Award, and recognition as a Dean’s Health Equity Scholar. Through outreach and volunteer work, he continues to bring education and care to African American communities in the Bay Area.
