Aly & AJ burst onto Radio Disney and Billboard charts as teenagers with glossy pop hits like 2007’s “Potential Breakup Song.” But after a hiatus, the duo has continually reinvented themselves, producing increasingly mature and emotionally candid music drenched in a distinctly nostalgic California sound. Their 2023 album, With Love From, took inspiration from Americana, country, and ’70s rock acts like Fleetwood Mac for what Paste called “a dreamy road trip” with “heartfelt stories on a backdrop of outrageously addictive instrumentals.” For Aly & AJ’s 2025 release, Silver Deliverer, the duo teamed up with producer Jonathan Wilson, celebrated for his revival of the Laurel Canyon sound and known for his work with Father John Misty and Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Recorded in the Topanga Canyon with analog methods and live musicians, Silver Deliverer draws in west coast harmonies and ripping electric guitar solos on vintage tube amps. Lyrically, Aly & AJ offer intimate introspection about a range of personal topics including motherhood—as Aly spent the last three weeks of recording holding her own newborn. In announcing the album, Aly & AJ write, “This is rock music for wistful lovers, new mothers, and those who believe in divine intervention. And for listeners looking for a bit of hope and a deliverer in their own life.”
