UNRULY: North Bay Artists from the San Francisco Art Institute
Inspired by the 2022 closure of the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI)—the oldest and most influential art school on the West Coast—this exhibition pays homage to a 152-year legacy of avant-garde creativity, critical thinking, and boundary-pushing experimentation.
SFAI was a home to a diverse community of artists, fostering individualistic ideas and challenging the status quo. To honor that legacy, UNRULY showcases 18 regional artists and former faculty members who continue to embody the bold, innovative spirit of the Art Institute.
Curated by Jude Mooney, the exhibition highlights works that explore new ideas across mediums, materials, and messages. While the featured artists represent multiple generations and styles, they are united by a shared passion for creative exploration.
Participating Artists:
Richard H. Alpert, Chester Arnold, David Best, Mark Grieve, Robert Hudson, Anton Kuehnhackl, Evri Kwong, Virginia Linder, Janis Crystal Lipzin, Phil McGaughy, naomi murakami, Sam Roloff, Alice Shaw, Simone Simon, Liz Steketee, Inez Storer, Hwei-Li Tsao, and Heather Wilcoxon.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to celebrate the enduring impact of SFAI on the North Bay art scene!
🎟 Reserve your spot today! Admission to the alumni preview is free.
