Gathered around Pierre Cocq-Amann, the trio is driven by an original project: to revive a forgotten instrument from the 1930s – the C Melody Saxophone, a non-transposing saxophone with a range situated between alto and tenor. It’s a nearly untamable and little-known instrument that has rarely been so well explored as in this trio.
Far from being an exercise for the well-versed music lover, this trio from Lorraine offers us a modern, rich, and powerfully evocative musical experience. The C-Melody, highlighted by creative piano and inspired percussion, showcases an original repertoire (entirely composed by the saxophonist), energetic and melodious, occasionally nodding to Kenny Garrett or E.S.T.
Winner of the Nancy Jazz Up! 2021, Back To C presents a program that stimulates both the imagination and the body, as the sensations emitted by the compositions are unique. Ancient and electronic sounds intertwine harmoniously, and the surprising colors of the ensemble testify to a diverse heritage: from jazz, to world music, and classical.
After an already promising first year, Back To C recorded its first album “Deeper” in January 2022. Recorded at “La Grange à Musique” by Jean-Pascal Boffo, this generous debut record (11 tracks) already demonstrates the sincerity and originality of this project!
