Alternatives to AI: Resisting inevitability narratives in the workplace

While the use of AI has quickly become a definite reality in the workplace, an open discussion of ethical implications and concerns is often missing. Sometimes the workplace might not even have an AI policy that addresses ethical concerns in a meaningful way, or it might only address some aspects of a specific set of concerns. Workers are increasingly required to use AI tools – often presented as "the only option" without any alternative; and no-one is informing us about our right to resist, object, and refuse. In many workplaces, expressing AI-critical sentiments has become a no-go, leaving workers silenced and with even less options to build networks of solidarity. The question then becomes: how can workers that do not want to use AI in the workplace stand in solidarity with each other and start organizing?

About the moderator and panelists
Esther Michelsen Kjeldahl is a climate justice organizer, co-host of FRI OS podcast, and co-founder of Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse, Fossilfri Fremtid, and Jordskred. She is a columnist at Altinget and the author of a number of books on the ethical and political dimensions of the climate and biodiversity crises. She has an MSc Philosophy & Public Policy from LSE.
Denise Utochkin is a non-EU immigrant, independent academic (Nordic Summer University, Emancipatory Futures Lab), activist (climate collapse, Palestinian solidarity), and organiser (Tender Loving Queer Malmö, Reclaim Pride Malmö). They work on developing, and spreading, knowledge of the interplay of technology, ideology, culture, and radical imagination.
Fernando Racimo works as associate professor (UCPH), and is the author of the recent book Science in Resistance (UC Press). He's a biologist working at the intersection of degrowth, exnovation and decomputing, and is a member of Scientist Rebellion, Academics for Palestine and Abolish AI!. He has a BA from Harvard University and a PhD from UC Berkeley.
Chris Aftzidis is a recent Computer Science graduate from ITU with an interest on the societal impacts of technologies.
Anastassia Vybornova is an open-source software developer, AI-critical tech activist, & independent researcher in computational social science.
