Alternative Photography: The Van Dyke Brown Process

Experience the rich history and hands-on process of Van Dyke Brown printing, a beautiful alternative photography technique. Led by local artist Kelsey Giroux, this workshop will guide you through brushing photosensitive emulsion onto paper and exposing your images to create one-of-a-kind prints.

Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with up to four digital images, with Kelsey preparing the negatives in advance. Throughout the workshop, you'll explore the chemistry behind Van Dyke Brown printing, learn about different paper choices and coating techniques, and discover how UV light sources affect the final image. You'll also gain insight into contrast control, processing, bleaching, and toning to refine and enhance your prints.
